Public Hearing

The Pubic Hearing scheduled for April 20, 2026, regarding Local Law 1 of the year 2026 has been postponed. A new hearing date will be determined and announced at a later time.

On July 28 I sat in as a panelist on the Joule/Finger Lakes CCA public meeting which reviewed the opt out solar and opt out electric. There has been, as we all know, a lot of confusion about the latter.

For comparison to the rates it offers through Constellation for renewable (the default) and for the standard fixed rate, the letter gives the average National Grid supply rate from April of 2020 to March of 2021. At that time rates were low, greatly impacted by the pandemic. National Grid’s supply rates went up substantially after March of 2021. The current National Grid supply rate for residences is .05516. So compare that rate with the 2 year fixed rate Constellation offers—.05912 (all renewable energy) or .04960 (standard fixed rate). We cannot know what the future holds for the variable NG rate but we know for certain what the village program offers. You will be automatically opted in to the renewable, but you can opt out of that and choose the standard fixed rate, or opt out and stay with the National Grid rate.

To opt out of the default renewable and to stay with National Grid, fill out the card that came with the letter sent to you from the Village, or call the Finger Lakes Community Choice program hotline (585) 244-0244 by August 14th. To opt-down from the default renewable to the fixed standard rate, please call the program hotline for assistance at (585) 244-0244.
