From Mark & Kathy Hill, Organizers of the Pop Up Pantry on Owens Road
This Tuesday we will be having our food giveaway. Weather is looking a little chilly but definitely doable! Please dress in layers in case it gets colder or warmer. If you are planning to attend please email, text or Facebook message me letting me know you will be there. I need yourfirst and last name, phone number, email and address. Also your food safety certificate if you haven’t sent it already. Thank you.
Mark and I will be getting there about 130pm to begin setting up. Anyonewishing to may get there between 130 and 2 if you’re wishing to register people and train on the ipad. Training for ipad starts at 2pm. Please let me know if you are planning to do that.
If you are interested in food distribution then you can get there any timebetween 130 and 215. There will be a little bit of instruction and the truck pulls in at 230p and that’s when all the fun begins. We need to get the truck unloaded and stationed before 3pm when the distribution begins. This will run until about 430 or 5 pm includes minor clean up.
General info:
People picking up food start lining up at 10am. There are usually about 150 cars representing 250 families. This continues to increase. Volunteers register them on iPads (supplied by Foodlink) and then the people picking up food drive between two long sets of tables with different foods that volunteers have unloaded from a truck.
Volunteers are stationed at all the tables and as the cars pull up, they put the food in the trunks or back seats of the cars. People picking up food do not get out of their cars.
The cars stop at each table and then drive away.
It usually takes a little over an hour to get through all the cars and then there’s a small amount of clean up.
The pull up is located on Owens Road in front of Lineage.
1. Volunteers that wish to handle food need to do a very quick online certification which is through a link I send.
2. IPad training is this Tuesday March 18 at 2pm. Food distribution training is at 215pm.
3. Generally, about 20-25 volunteers are needed monthly. With 150 people waiting in line for 5 hours for food it is imperative that if one wishes to volunteer (thank you so much) that they commit to show up.
If you have any other questions, please call or text me at 585-208-6174.
Thank you very much.
